The Warehouse
Students from Queen’s University Belfast under the supervision of Dr Alison Calvert, Lecturer of Education and Co-Ordinator of the Sustainable Food Module within the BSc for Food Science and Nutrition, plan to visit The Warehouse in Newtownards for a tour and conversations with staff and users to see the community supermarket, the crisis kitchen and the wear and share facility in action. They will see first had the operations that underpin the work at The Warehouse, including the procurement of surplus food supply from the local food system, its storage, preparation, retail and associated hospitality-based provisions. They will complete an assessment that provides an opportunity for them to apply their module learnings to the context of this food-centred community organization, serving those most in need in our society. Jude Bailie, Director of The Warehouse will also visit Queen’s University Belfast to deliver a lecture and provide feedback to the students on their assignment.
